Pfft

Our backyard. This is all we're getting, folks.

Behold, the vast drifts of snow that closed schools today!

(Not really, we’ve gotten all that we’re getting.)

I am fearful for our lives and worry that we will run out of essential supplies.

(No, not really.)

Woe unto anyone who attempts to drive today.

(The roads are fine, trust me.)

We are delighted to have to make this day up later, because it will be totally worth it

(No.)

And what’s the weather like where you are?

Well, we certainly have more snow on the ground than that. :-) Snow days would be fine, if you didn’t have to make them up later!

We did not get any of the freezing rain or wintery mix that was forecast, but many of the area schools (mostly private ones) announced a 2-hour delay last night before they knew that. Only in the south.

Hmm…it’s warmed up to -7C today, (from -22C yesterday, yikes!) Schools here almost never close due to the weather, but the school buses were cancelled a couple times last week. My kids usually go in anyway when that happens, there’s so few kids they have no lessons and it’s just a giant play day.

LOL, now that I live here, I have to laugh every time the schools are closed or delayed back east. So far no snow days or delays even if it is -10 F or a blizzard. They get a little more lenient about tardiness on snowy days, but otherwise it’s life as usual. And yes, it gets icy/freezing rain, too.

It’s going to be 40s and bright sunshine today….so lots of melting. :)

I think it’s one of those damned if you do damned if you don’t things for schools. Last week we had frigid temps. They cancelled school for 2 days but resumed the third which was colder than the second day off. Things got very interesting on the district facebook page!

Oh, for pity’s sake. I understand the alarm that any snow raises in your area, but let’s get real, people!

Here in NE, we are emerging from a deep freeze. High of 4 F one day last week, 32 and sunny today, but highs may reach 50 by the weekend. It will be glorious!

We had more freezing rain here in Richmond, and schools were closed (roads were not great). Apparently it got worse south and east of here. I can’t believe Cville closed for that pitiful amount!

What to the what? Are you kidding me? We haven’t had much snow lately, but it’s been cold. It warmed up enough to let us go skiing Saturday. And the days are getting longer, so yay for that!

(Our school builds in room for about 5 snow days. That’s pretty awesome. And we don’t start until after Labor day and get out before Memorial day.)

  10. Oh wow. That’s a doozy of a screw-up with the weather report!
    A DUSTING, no DRIFTING.
I’m ready for a fresh layer here, I mean, if it MUST be cold out…

  11. It’s been too cold to melt the several inches we have in the yard (along with the frozen slush on the edges of the street) but mostly our roads are clear. Our schools rarely cancel or even have delayed start but that comes from living where snow is expected during the winter. I do remember the craziness of living in Loudoun County when it snowed, and the school district there made a bad call last week.

They can’t be too careful, right? Like when the tourists here are all bundled up in wool and puffies when it is 60 degrees out.

  13. Sue Treiber says:

    That is funny.

  14. Ha! That’s a true southern snowstorm. Better start rationing the food!

It’s actually been chilly down here in Florida. Rainy and damp cold all day yesterday. Blah. Today it’s still “cold” but I’ve resisted turning the heat on. Woe is me. :)
