Ladies and gentlemen, I do believe I have found someone who out-Marthas The Martha.
Meet Karen Nyberg.
She is an astronaut who is currently aboard the International Space Station.
Nyberg has multiple degrees in engineering and sciencey stuff from various universities, all of which culminated in her adding the letters P, H, and D after name.
Oh, and she has a patent. Because, yes.
Martha Stewart, I don’t recall hearing that you have a Ph.D. or a patent.
Nyberg is married to another astronaut, Douglas Hurley, and they have a three year old son. Can you imagine conversations at their dinner table? Can you imagine nighttime reading with their toddler? I’ll bet they don’t have gritted-teeth marital discussions about whose turn it is to empty the dishwasher, because they probably just invented something that does it for them.
When she’s not busy replacing ignitors and fuel reservoirs for studies of combustion in microgravity and other space-related tasks, plus whipping up toys out of space scraps, Nyberg is on Facebook, Twitter, and Pinterest. Y’all, she’s pinning in zero gravity. Raise your hand if you pin from your sofa while wearing pajamas. (My hand is up.)
And this amazing woman is doing all this withonly minimal chocolate to sustain her. I am in awe.
When Nyberg returns to Earth, I’d love to see her in a craft-off with The Martha. There would be so much creativity that I’m expecting some spontaneous combustion in the craft room.
So there you go, folks. Your daily awesome.
