A new year, a new beginning.
The first year of high school for one girl and the last year of middle school for the other.
Because they’re both older, they have more responsibilities than last year, because I think it’s important for them to learn to do more and to participate more fully in the running of this household.
That’s not to say that I’m not still there doing all those things that parents do, because I am.
I mean, it’s not like I sleep in while they get themselves up and ready for school. If they’re getting up and facing the day, so am I.
So one girl was out the door at 7:15, which was just when the other one was getting up. She left by 8:10 and Pete was out the door by 8:13.
Since then, I’ve been alternating between working and doing some piddling around Jenworld. It seems like the projectsand chores never end.
Late in the morning, I went out for a walk and just so happened to end up at my favorite bakery, where I bought treats for my girls for after dinner tonight.
Then I walked home and did more work, interspersed with more odds and ends around the house.
One girl will get home at 3:00, then the other one after 4:00. Then Pete an hour later.
I’ll make a dinner that consists of foods everyone likes and we’ll sit down together to eat and talk about everyone’s day.
Then we’ll have a quiet evening. And then we’ll all go to sleep.
The first day of the new school year will be over, with only 179 more to go.
