One Month: A New Year

Part of a series about setting manageable monthly goals…

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I’m a bit late with this. But better late than never, right?

I kept things simple in December and had only two goals:

  1. Continue working on cutting out/back the evening snacking.
  2. Not gain weight.

As always, that first goal remains challenging. I’ve tried quitting cold turkey and I’ve tried substituting healthy snacks. No matter what I do, this is where I stumble each day.

As for the second goal, I started and ended the month the same weight, which is amazing, considering all the eating I did. I can only attribute success to keeping my portion sizes small and getting plenty of exercise.

This is going to be my last One Month post. I’ve been doing it for two years now and I’ve found myself in a rut, in terms of having the same few goals month after month. For 2013, I’m going to try setting three goals (not resolutions) for the year, which I’ll tell you about next week.

So how about the rest of you? Who had December goals and how did you do? Are any of you going to continue with the small monthly goals?

I don’t have any small goals in mind right now, but I intend to knit 13 pairs of socks in ’13.

I don’t really set monthly goals, but I just set a new goal for myself: not to let work stress invade my home life. I am sick of having nightmares about work and constantly thinking about work. In order to effect this, I am going to get in the habit of taking quick yoga breaks to breathe and stretch when I am stressed at the office and to remind myself that is’ OK to say “no” to people–and this job is still much less stressful than nursing! Here I am on vacation and I’m still answering work emails every day. Enough!

  3. I managed to LET GO in December, mostly because I didn’t have much choice. I think I did a good job. I didn’t become my mother and yell/scream/cry/take to my bed with a headache on Christmas afternoon. I kept a smile on my face and hosted dinner for 14 of us.
I feel like I should make exercise and eating goals for January… but my mind just isn’t there right now. Perhaps I will attempt to simply focus on what is really important to do each day… not what is urgent but what is important.
