Part of a series about setting small manageable monthly goals…
Oh would you look at that. Another month has just flown by. It’s time to review our monthly goals and see how we did. Here is what I hoped to do in October:
- Be careful about my eating and use SparkPeople to help me stay on track. I was only moderately successful with this. Mostly healthy choices from day to day, but a bit too much snacking in the evenings.
- Weed my garden and take care of my fall yard chores. I’m nearly done with this; another two hours or so and I can call it finished.
Looking ahead to November, I have three goals:
- Get my nighttime snacking under control, as in, mostly non-existent. If I do snack, it needs to be vegetables, fruits, or something healthy in small proportions.
- Finish putting together our vacation photo album on Shutterfly and have it printed. Yes, I know we’ve been back more than two months. No, I’m not done, not even close to it. Shameful, I know.
- Make serious progress on my Christmas shopping list and have nearly everyone done by the end of the month. By everyone I mean our parents, nieces and nephews, and anyone else who is not a resident of Jenworld. Teachers and local friends are also an exception to this, as the former will receive gift cards and the latter might possibly get some sort of food gifts that need to be fresh. I don’t want to spend December rushing from store to store, not when I could be hanging out with my family and friends and doing fun things.
How about everyone else? How did you do on your October goals? Do you have any November goals?
`
Nice job on the goals, Jen. You inspire me!
I didn’t explicitly state goals for October, but I was loosely trying to stay on track with my healthy eating (no/low carb and lots of veggies), trying to get back into a workout routine before work, and minimize my stress at work.
I did fine on the diet front, even adding lemon zest (fish oil) and green smoothies to the mix. I failed miserably at the last two goals, however. I’ve been running or biking maybe once a week and I’ve been completely stressed about my work situation.
November goals: Sort out my work situation and decide if I’m going to stay here or try my hand at consulting; continue the healthy eating and try and make the workout thing work. Oh, and approach the holidays with a sense of fun and humor and not let them stress me out.
Everything on my list had a nice big checkmark next to it.
November:
Buy a new vehicle to replace one that’s breaking down.
Plan a holiday feast.
Schedule our December Advent activities.
Finish up 2011′s December Daily album (don’t ask).
Breathe. (To that end: schedule vacation to use up my time that expires at the end of the year.)
I did moderately well as well….heh. I found that while I could walk a half hour at my face paced walk, about mid-September….and not wake up with an aching knee (surgical one) it was feeling much better, progressing to “normal” if I only bike rode for my weekly goal of getting back on the horse. So, that is what I did. And into October I continued that–bike riding at least 3x / week, for an hour each time. It has been about 8 days of NO pain at all. Fast walking, up/down stairs, etc. I am finding my surgical knee is now pronounced “back to normal”. Thought I’d never see it, much less feel it! So, my goal date to pick up the walk routine is November 6. A full 4 months after surgery. Fingers crossed that enough time will have gone by with NO pain in the knee, so that starting up slowly (1/2 hr, to 45 min, to full hour) with the walk routine will get me back out there. I sure miss it.
I’m trying really hard to stay out of the Halloween candy…
Pulling photos together is SUCH a chore. Good luck with it.
I need to wrap edits on a MS this month–and keep after yoga because my back has been TIGHT.
If you figure out how to keep out of the Halloween candy, let me know…I’ve only had one little kit-kat today, but the bowl is calling my name…
I want to finish a bunch of projects I’m working on and work on a Christmas quilt. Plus, I need to seriously start lifting weights. But I fell the other day – running in the dark – gotta let my ankle heal.
November goals:
Go to the gym at least twice a week (starting small here, people.)
Write my 50,000 words for National Novel Writing Month. This will be the 4th year I’ve done it, and hopefully it will be the 4th year I complete it. I’ve got a decent idea this time around and I am really crossing my fingers that when I’m done writing it, I won’t be so sick of it that I let it sit on my hard drive for years without editing it. Like the other novels I’ve written. Sigh.
