Raised right

The photo to the right has been making its way around Facebook and Pinterest. Naturally, I agree with it, as both of my girls have been raised on a steady diet of 70s and 80s music.

To that, I would add that successful parenting is also introducing your kids to the great movies of your youth and having them become your kids’ favorites.

Here’s a short list of some of my girls’ favorite classic movies:

  • Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
  • Back to the Future
  • Raiders of the Lost Ark
  • The Princess Bride
  • Crocodile Dundee
  • Ghostbusters

So based on the theory shown above, what would constitute truly successful parenting? How about this:

My girls before a Halloween event on Sunday. My work as a mother appears to be complete.

Happy Halloween y’all. Be safe.

Let me tell you, hearing your four year old son belting out “My Woman from Tokyo” takes a lot of beating. And having both of them recite lines from “Young Frankenstein”.

  2. Don’t forget “Tootsie”!

  3. I’ve tried to get them to love certain movies, but they think I am weird. My biggest accomplishment there has been a thorough appreciation of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I am proud to state that I succeeded in musical influence for the greater good of our family. ;)
    The Ghostbusters costumes rock!

I wish I could get a photo of them in their costumes with Evan in his! How funny would that be?
I love when my kids like stuff from the 80′s.

  5. And mine are the Men in Black! I second SC’s comment about Tootsie–LOVE that movie.
Jen, your girls are raised So right it makes me kind of teary. Between the spy gear and the excellent taste (inherited from their mama) and the running, they will RULE the WORLD (mwahahaha!). Well done, friend.

Our kids have a strange mix of musical taste from my husband and I, everything from 70′s rock to 80′s pop and unfortunately Gangnam Style, it’s fun to have the ipod on shuffle and hear the crazy songs they know all the words to….I would add “Princess Bride” and “Galaxy Quest” to your list of movies, they are favourites in our house!

So what would you say about a kid who loves Frank Sinatra? That’s my eldest’s favorite.

But they all agree with these movies – except Luke says Temple of Doom was the worst of the Jones’ movies.

I find it completely appropriate that I am reading this while watching Star Wars IV: A New Hope with my kids. : )

    PERFECT costumes. I love it!
