The new list

I was messing around on Pinterest yesterday — I know, I know, that place is such a rabbit hole and I get lost every time — when I saw that someone I follow had started a board for her bucket list.

That got me thinking about mine and I ended up starting a Pinterest board to pin my own life list* ideas.

* I’m actually rather tired of the term bucket list.

And then, as I was thinking about what’s on my list, I had a vague sense that perhaps I had blogged about this before and sure enough, it turns out that I did four years ago.

Oh my, what an interesting little Time Capsule a la Jen for me to look at. Of the ten things on my life list four years ago, I’ve knocked a few things off, including visiting Paris (will definitely do that again), gone to England again (and will again in the future), taken some amazing trips, and built my dream house. I’ve also made progress on other goals, including losing at least 50 pounds, be married to Pete at least 75 years (21 down…), be a good parent, and visit England at least a dozen times in my lifetime. Other things, including taking dancing lessons with Pete are still a pipe dream.

The 2012 version of my list is still in progress, but here are some of the things on it:

  • See Aurora Borealis.
  • Visit the Great Wall of China. I wouldn’t mind running on it too.
  • Go to Italy, the Netherlands, Easter Island, Petra, and… well, the list goes on and on.
  • Write and publish a book or two. One written (but not published yet) and one in the works.
  • Own a pair of brown Frye Harness 12R boots. I have them in black and my love for them is almost unholy.
  • Be brave enough to wear a two piece bathing suit to the beach or the pool. For once in my life, I can actually imagine this, but I’m not quite there yet. Ask me in another 25 pounds or so.

What about you? What’s on your life list?

    I have a bucket list on my Pin boards ( http://pinterest.com/krisis86/bucket-list-of-doom/ ) !

I also have one where I can pin completed life goals. See http://pinterest.com/krisis86/i-totally-did-this/ I was going to say my favorite one on there is the “pet a fox” one (’cause I seriously feel so exultant every time I think about that. And no, exultant is not too strong a word) but then I scrolled down and saw “met my biological father” “changed my name” and I was like oh. Maybe the fox wasn’t my favorite one.

However, it makes me happy that I have 20 pins on my “bucket list” and 17 pins on me “I’ve done this” list. Way to keep it even, Kris!

Favorite things on my bucket list board are: live in a different country, beat my eating disorder for once and for all, and be married to the same person for over 50 years. Unless I kill Nate because I’m so hungry in which case I give myself a pass.

It’s not very exciting, but I think the main thing I’d like to get accomplished some time before I die is to finish fixing up our house. When we added on, we left a bathroom in terrible shape, and in seven years (seven!) it hasn’t improved at all. Rob doesn’t have the skills, so even if he had the time, there would be a heck of a learning curve involved, and we are so skittish about hiring contractors after our awful experience building the addition, we just keep ignoring it. We’ve also got an area in the old part of the house that needs to be redone, and we have great plans for it, but again, lack time and skills.

  3. Now you’ve got me thinking…I do want to take the boys to England, I’d love to watch the sturgeon spawn some spring, tap a maple tree and make syrup from the sap, and visit Germany.

Hmm…I’m trying to live in the moment, and most of my goals are of the here and now variety, but I do really want to see Paris with all of my heart. And I feel so good about finishing a half-marathon this fall that there’s a corner of my brain wondering if I should try the whole 26.2 someday…

I never did like the title “The Bucket List” it reminds me of something we’d use to slop–or never mind.

But, I have checked a few off my list lately… :D I’m still working on others. One day I want to go to Ireland. Been close a few times – but it seems I always run out of time . . . one day :D

And believe me, I know all about those Pin Boards…they get you and it’s like being pinned to the wall…I just can’t seem to get off. LOVE it!

  6. Go to London again, go to Ireland, go to Austria. Go to Costa Rica.

Be a grandmother. Live to be in my 90′s (Most of my Mom’s family has done this and all were functioning well at that age. I’ve seen their joy at being Great-grandparents)

Meet some more of the people I’ve met through blogs. (I’ve already met 8 of them and another meet-up is happening this week!)

Live in a little cottage or trailer home, in a warm climate, close enough to walk to the beach every day (we have a 10 year plan for this)

I think you have inspired me to start a “Life List” pinterest board.

I’d like to see the midnight sun and cross the Arctic Circle. I’d also like to retrace my mother’s journeys through South America, and visit all the Little House on the Prairie sites. I need to finish the Baltimore Album quilt I started thirteen years ago, and visit East Anglia, Scotland, Ireland, London, Paris, Bruges, and India.

  8. It would definitely be travel. Some big trips–New Zealand, Costa Rica, Europe and some smaller ones like taking my future grandkids to Disney World and introducing them to hiking at Mammoth Lakes.

my wife has those boots, indeed….every woman should :)

I really think you’re missing an opportunity to leverage this whole camping thing vs. dance lessons with Pete. I mean, really, what’s a few hours of the waltz or tango or salsa or whatever when compared with even one night sleeping in the wilderness, on the ground, with bugs and wild animals nearby?

Re: the list – I don’t have an official list, but if I did #1 on yours would totally make mine, too. I’ve wanted to see the northern lights for years. Someday!

BTW – Have you ever heard of the show The Buried Life? It’s about four young Canadian guys who made a list of 100 things to do before they die. They set out to cross things off their list, and made part of it that they’d help others cross stuff off their own lists. MTV did one season of episodes about them and then, I guess b/c the show doesn’t involve pregnant teenagers or people who spend every spare moment getting drunk and whoring it up, they canceled it. But the guys are apparently still working on crossing items off their list, which is pretty cool. Oh and they took the title from a poem by Matthew Arnold called The Buried Life, which apparently inspired their list.

  11. I think I need to start a list on Pinterest! Travel is definitely on the list.
