The 5-day weather forecast for here in Virginia:
The 5-day forecast in London:
Guess where I’d rather be?
Actually, scratch that. I’d always rather be in London. But that second forecast could be almost anywhere in the world and I’d still prefer it over upper 90s and humid here in Virginia. (Please, challenge me on that. Find a place that would truly suck.)
If you need me, I’ll be hugging the air conditioner.

UGH! When we lived in the DC area, the humidity was just incredible. I remember one evening when I was leaving for a hostessing job and I was just enveloped in the hot hot humid air. I was covered in sweat before I even got to my car in the parking lot.
I’m with you–nooooo thank you!
Suppose to hit 108F here in Canadaland today. Fri – 104, Sat – 104, Sun – chilly 97
We are hot here too, in northern IL, (100 today), but we’re in such a drought that it’s actually less humid than usual for summer!
Richmond is going to be 101 Fri., 102 Sat. and then a cool 99 + over Sun into Tues. We need thunderstorms to break the 3 H’s (Hot, Humid & Hazy)…..Doggies will be getting frozen treats in the afternoon.
I’ll tell ya where you’d rather not be: http://www.weather.com/weather/5-day/Death+Valley+CA+USCA0286:1:US
For those who don’t want to clickiski: today: 118 high, 85 low. Tomorrow: 117/84. Not a cloud to be found for miles around. And it doesn’t get any better from there. (Oh look! Saturday the 7th it’s supposed to top 120!) …and that’s considered a “cool spell”.
They do call it Death Valley for a reason. And I do not care if it is a dry heat. It’s still 118 freaking degrees. You could fry an egg on your head in that weather. Forget the sidewalk – it’s melted already.
In related news, it was 41 degrees out this morning when I headed out to run. You, my dear, are not inspiring me to look forward to the misery of the weather coming to visit you. But I shall come anyway, just to see your beautiful face. Well that and the whole work thing. But really. You! Live and in person. : )
I still prefer the dry heat over the humid death rays.
Jen, could be worse. Not much, but still could. My brother is in Paraguay and in the summer there it gets to 100 degrees with bazillion percent humidity every day. And he has no access to air conditioning. And he is usually out walking from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
I tell you what, I hate summer. I’m moving to Antarctica.
Yuck, only thing I’d be excited about with those temps is that chance for a thunderstorm. I do enjoy thunderstorms!
When you’ve had enough, come this way, high of 71 expected today and dropping back into the 60′s for the next 10 days. The Hubs was laughing at me when I told him I was making myself a summer scarf (cotton not wool) he doesn’t think I need it. Whatever, its chilly here this morning.
It’s supposed to be like that here too. I’m planning on becoming a cave dweller.
I, for one, am glad to hear that you believe in using the air conditioner. Otherwise, I’d have to rethink that train ticket.
It’s been really lovely here in Orlando today…..88 deg with 30% humidity.
My northern family can’t understand why I love Florida in the summer, but we have many days where it’s the coolest place on the east coast.
I actually love it when the temp is in the 90′s and i can feel the heat all the way down to my bones.
Same here in Des Moines for the next week. I am over summer already. Really. No rain the forecast. It was 100 yesterday but there was wind which really did help.
If you are looking for me I will be inside, with all the blinds closed eating a popsicle.
On the bright side, the sweet corn is READY!
Try the 102-105 all weekend just to the south of you in Raleigh with the humidity bringing it up to a cozy 110-112. Oh well, good excuse for lots of iced coffee and gin & tonics.
*waving at you from London*
There has been much whining here about the weather lately – it appears we will not be getting a summer. However, I just got back from a week in Crete and on the final day it topped out at 38C (100F) and I could not take it for more than a day. I did get used to temperatures of over 100F in India after a couple of weeks but I was still utterly relieved to be back in Blighty.
If people in the UK have to deal with temperatures in the 90s for more than a few days, there is much dismay. I feel your pain!
I’d like a happy medium of temperatures in the 70s and 80s and low humidity. That’s my perfect weather.
We’re totally retiring in England, lady. You, me, a cottage by the sea. For real.
Detroit is 95-100 and humid as well. Thankfully, we have relocated to northern Michigan for ten days, and this morning I am wearing a hoodie!
Reading this after the fact, I am struck by the lack of foreknowledge of the rain and wind that hit on Friday night.
And those temps you’ve been having will soon be mine… lucky me, it won’t include the VA humidity but unluckily it is also minus an A/C unit to hug.
