… summer break is over.
Hey El, love the too-short knee socks with the cropped leggings.
We were up at oh-my-god o’clock this morning, the first of 180 such wake ups. I woke Elegant up and she surprised me by getting out of bed immediately…
… and walking across the hall to climb into bed with Pete, who was extremely displeased about having to get up at the ungodly time of 6:15. It was another 10 minutes before I could cajole either of my non-morning people out of bed.
The girls chose their first-day-of school outfits with care.
One child went for fashion…
…while the other went for color.
Hot pink is the color of confidence, right?
The backpacks are already heavily-laden, as this year’s crop of teachers gave us additional supply lists at open house on Monday — never mind that we parents had already gone shopping to buy the lists that were posted on the school website. Of course it’s no problem to run back to the store to get single subject composition notebooks — of course, finding said notebooks is easier said than done. Yesterday, Target looked like Georgia after Sherman’s March to the Sea.
And so it begins, whether we like it or not, whether we’re ready or not.

Well good luck ladies! And I love General Sherman references! Makes my day!
One year we had to buy graph paper composition books — which were almost impossible to find.
Notebooks and folders are in short supply here as well. And we always have to buy in certain colors…they would be better off telling us to buy in certain patterns.
Girls look very smart!
ya know, after a minute or two it hit me—those said teachers that gave out last minute supply lists at the open house on Monday? MUST NOT HAVE CHILDREN OF THEIR OWN. Otherwise, they would know the drill—everything sells out within days (if not hours, heh) and as such, would not inflict this type of personal torture on the mama gatherer. Just sayin’. maybe a few subtlely chosen words somewhere (blog?) that might reach some teachers at this schools ears, may produce a more satisfying result for next years hunter/gatherers convention aka the Target supply run!
This is sad that you just can’t assume everyone knows what you are talking about when you mention Sherman!
Hope they have a great first day!
oh-my-God-o’clock. I love it. Soon it will be DARK when we get up at that time. I hate that part. Then it’s cold. I am moving. That’s it. Moving to somewhere warmer in the winter with more light. And less laundry.
Hope Day 1 goes well. I don’t have kids but all my friends do and are facing from first day of kindergarden to dropping them at college, the feelings have been the same I think “how can this be possible!?”
They look so stylish….such fashionistas!
School is fun….huh! LOL
*sigh* I’m jealous that you only have to get up that early for 180 days. Some of us are up before that for nearly 365 days, all year, every year. Around here it’s referred to as 0′dark thirty.
The girls look fabulous! Love the fashion choice AND the Recycle t-shirt! (I wish I was young/hip enough to pull of the skirt/legging/tennies style.)
I hope it was a great day back at school!!!!!
I love the General Sherman references too.
And just a word in defense of the teachers (I am one, so I am admittedly biased): often the school districts send home lists without asking teachers for updated information. That is what happened this year at my school, so I sent home a second list, too. I know it is inconvenient for my students’s parents, but I have some awesome plans for the year and I want to make sure all of my students can participate even if the school district sent home an incomplete list of supplies.
Hope they had a great first day of school. The mornings kill me until I get back to the quiet house.
I most emphatically DO NOT MISS school supply lists!
I love both of their t-shirts! Where did those come from?
They look fabulous! Have a great year girls!
In high school we don’t know anything in advance – so the stores have been “marched through” by the time we start!
Thankfully, Ally didn’t need a single thing! We had all the right stuff left over from alst year and in good condition. That is a first!
I think that they both look absolutely SMASHING! I hope the first day went well!
They look fantastic to kick off the school year! Hopefully they had a great first day!
Our teachers do that too–peeves me to no end. It’s not their first rodeo–a lot of them have been teaching for 10 years or longer!
Your girls look so perky and cute and ready to roll!
