In tandem

Once upon a time, there was a lady bike named Bubbles

… and a man bike named Bubba…

The two bikes fell in love:

As sometimes happens in these situations, the two bikes became parents…

… to conjoined twins.

People, please welcome the newest member of Jenworld — Hubba Bubba.  Weighing in at 60 pounds, Hubba Bubba is graphite gray and has no frilly accessories like streamers or bells.  (Yet.)  There are no plans to separate the twins and, in fact, everyone in Jenworld is delighted with the newest member of the peloton.

Hubba Bubba has already been taken out into the new world.

After Pete and Graceful got home, we instituted the new Jenworld rule that both persons must pedal at all times and that the person in the back can’t just coast and let her almost-42-year-old father do all the work.

Something tells me we’ll be having some interesting adventures this summer.

    Daisy, Daisy,
    Give me your answer do!
    I’m half crazy,
All for the love of you!
It won’t be a stylish marriage,
    I can’t afford a carriage
But you’ll look sweet upon the seat
Of a bicycle made for two.

So cool! We were contemplating one of these for Kate, who was the least responsible bike rider ever. I can’t tell you the number of close calls we had with her because she was singing as she rode and not paying attention … yikes. Luckily, the self-preservation gene seems to have kicked in this year.

    Hubba-hubba! That is too cool!

  4. Shana says:

Love it! Is the back child-sized only, or can you raise the set to ride with two adults? I hauled Carlie around on a tag-along tandem for a while and HOLY MOLY the workout.

  5. You’ve got a fun summer ahead.

    That is so cute!

Do they play rock-paper-scissors to see who gets to ride in the back? :) (The girls)

  9. Prof. J says:

Is that as much fun as it looks? Yippee!

  10. That’s really cool. Rick and I have rented tandems, and Zack has a connective bike that makes his and Rick’s bike a tandem. Fun times!

  11. Fannie says:

Will YOU be allowed to slack off? ;)

  12. Kristabella says:

Fun! I have to admit, the urge to slack off would be very high! I would be all “this is such a fun carriage ride!”

  15. I always see families use these out here in the summer. I so would have coasted and let my dad pedal too. Good rule.

Really cute. You guys will have a lot of fun. My cousin and I used to ride around the Canadian countryside on an ancient tandem, when we were teens. We looked ridiculous, I’m sure, but we had a great time.

  20. We have an old one (from the ’70′s I think ) very heavy and metallic green. We call it the Electric Pickle. When Tom and I ride it we get a LOT of attention! Have fun with it!!
