Three and three do not equal six

Three things that I’m loving right now:

  1. My new Danskos.  Love them.  Love them.  Love them.  They’re SO comfy.  Of course, I haven’t actually worn them on any walk of any length, but they’ve been great around the house and to the office.
  2. My new socks that Sue handknitted for me.  Seriously.  How amazing is this friend of mine that she found this fab green yarn and made me my very own bespoke socks?  Even better, the sock pattern is called “Brainless” so my socks are “Jen’s Brainless.” Love it.
  3. My new blogging gig at the Localist.  I’m loving writing about eating locally, seasonally, and sustainably.

Three things I’m not loving so much:

  1. My new wake up time.  I don’t have to get up until 6:30, yet I’m waking up every day somewhere in the 5:00-5:30 range.  The sun’s not even up yet, so why should I be?  And, yes, the froggies are still getting their grooves on at that ungodly hour, so at least someone is happy.
  2. My lack of time.  There are just not enough hours in the day to get everything done.  Could someone clone me please?

Actually, I can’t think of anything else that’s bothering me, so we’ll just stick with the two.

What about y’all?  What are you loving or not these days?

    Jen,
Regarding the items you are not loving so:
    Wouldn’t #1 cancel out #2?
    Jenny

  3. Angie says:

Love the socks. I need to work on my knitting skills. I also agree with Jenny, #1 is the answer to #2.

  4. Kathy says:

Jen, congrats on your Localist gig. That is AWE-some.
oh you lucky girl, those are some gorgeous socks, too!

  5. Ugh on the wake up time! I wake up at 3am when Rick goes to work (he’s insane) but go right back to sleep. 7am is still too early for me.

Right now I’m hating tiredness and malaise. I belong on a fainting couch, I swear.

  6. I am loving those socks, I am!

Brainless socks are BRILLIANT! You have a good friend!
Love the mild weather, bulbs growing bigger, aged sharp cheddar cheese in my fridge.
Hate that B is home sick but I’m not certain he IS sick, hate the smell of my oven self-cleaning.

  8. Violet says:

Loving: it is 70 degrees and sunny outside.
Not loving: I am at work…inside.

Loving: the actual work I am doing at my second job and all of the people I interact with.
Not loving: Standing on my feet for 2-3 hours at a time. The ol’ plantar fascitis is flaring up.
Loving: money in my savings account. hee!

Loving: getting in the habit of drinking more water (I usually run on the dehydrated side).
Not loving: 17,000 potty breaks a day.

  9. Kristabella says:

Loving that I spent most of my day yesterday with some of my favorite people. And I get to see them on Saturday again.

Not loving: my job, the fact that seeing those people yesterday resulted in me getting home at 2 AM.

  10. bdaiss says:

Loving: the warm weather, my Easter crafts, my kids

Not so much: the forecast for snow tonight, the deadline for said Easter crafts, still getting up minimum of 3 times per night.

  11. Kirstin says:

I’m loving that March is just about done. I need some Spring weather which looks liking it’s coming this weekend!

Which brings me to what I’m not loving – the days of sideways rain, that we seems to be getting each week!

  12. Hating … waking up!

Loving … that spring break starts on Friday.

  13. Alex says:

Those are great socks! I admire people who can knit.

I’m lovin’ my new job, the warm weather we are having, and my husband for picking up the slack since I started working.

I’m not lovin’ people who cannot seem to return an email or phone call, the headaches I’ve been getting everyday, and how tired I am all the time (I think the last two are from the new job I’m lovin’).

  14. Ree says:

    Cute socks!

Loves: the spring-y weather, getting into a normal-ish groove at work, my new Aerosole heels.

Irks: Getting mascara in my eye, having to get out of bed in the morning, forgetting my flats and walking from the train in those same heels.

Jen, you will need to carefully see how your new Danskos break in. I knew that Dansko’s contract with the company that manufactured their bottoms (Sanita) ran out in 2007, so when I bought a new pair of Dansko clogs after that date, I wasn’t really paying that much attention to how the new Dansko’s would be feeling/fitting. They made both my pinky toes blister so horribly that I returned them to the store I got them at, learned what I’m going to be cut/pasting below, and swore I would only buy Sanita branded shoes from now on.
Here’s the info on what Dansko did, after their contract with Sanita ran out in 2007:

  16. Julie says:

wow, looks like my cut/pasted quote didn’t work above, so here it is again:

For the last 17 years, all Dansko Professional clogs and all Dansko Stapled Clogs have been manufactured by Sanita in Europe. The relationship between Dansko and Sanita ended in August 2007. Shortly after that time, Sanita began distributing the same products directly in the US under their own name.

If you have a pair of Dansko stapled clogs purchased before 2008, look at the bottom of the sole and you will see patent 0060240 engraved into the sole. This indicates that your clogs were made by Sanita according to their patented construction. If you have a pair of really old Dansko clogs, you may even see Sanita stamped on the bottom as well as the patent number mentioned above.

If the patent number is missing, then you have a new Dansko product that was introduced in 2008. The new Dansko clogs are made by various manufacturers around the world based on a re-design of the original Sanita clog. According to Dansko’s printed catalog information, they have introduced structural innovations to enhance the performance of these clogs; improved lateral stability, better shock absorption, more secure heel strike and improved aesthetics. Visually, the clogs look very similar, however the new Dansko is wider across the heel and has a curved up sole in the back of the heel.

On the other hand, Sanita has been delivering the same product (as was previously distributed by Dansko), made by the same materials, by the same artisans, in the same Sanita owned factory.

So in summary, if you want to purchase the same clog that was sold in the US under the Dansko brand (pre-2008), then you would need to switch to buying the Sanita brand.

Absolutely love the “green-theme” socks. They’rrrrreee GREAT!

  18. I am having sock and shoe envy, which I’m pretty sure is extra sinful on Easter.

    Loving your socks!!

Also totally loving my job and colleagues (most of them) :-)

Loving the # of workouts I’ve been able to get in over the past few weeks.

Not loving: lack of instantaneous results from said workouts and the fact that my clothes fit like crap

Not loving that my husband is feeling crappish and the youngest boy might be getting allergies for the first time.
