Pete tried to get me to use Sharpie

I have all sorts of things I want to talk about today, but there’s so much that I’m having a hard time organizing my thoughts.  Perhaps it would be easier if I made a list:

Ah, that’s better.  Now I can stay focused and on task.

  • The daily snow bitch-fest report:  We were supposed to get a big storm yesterday and today.  Schools were closed yesterday, since the snow was supposed to start at 9 a.m.  What really happened is that we got heavy flurries in the morning, then the sun came out and warmed things up a bit, then we got a messy wintry mix starting at 5:00, and perhaps 3″ of snow overnight.  Definitely not the 5-10″ predicted.  The sun is now trying to come out and shine on us.  The kids are home today… again.
  • In a moment of unbelievable stupidity, I decided to walk downtown yesterday morning to take care of a couple of errands.  One of them really could not wait, but I could have at least driven there instead of walking.  Walking down the driveway, I realized it was icy out.  Walking down our little street, I slipped and nearly fell several times.  Yet I continued on.  Because I’m stupid like that.  Needless to say, I ended up on my knees a few times and had several of those spine-stiffening moments when I nearly fell but caught myself quickly, which led to me being very tense the entire time I was out.  Suffice it to say that I’m a bit bruised and sore today.  On the up side, I didn’t break anything or crack open my skull AND I got in some exercise, so I’m calling it a win all around.
  • If you are a frequent — or even infrequent — flier, you should know that starting May 1, American Airlines is going to start charging $8 to rent a blanket or pillow for domestic flights.  Other people’s hair and who-knows-what stuck to the blankets will remain free to all users.  I’m sure that other airlines will quickly jump on the money-making bandwagon and, pretty soon, you’ll have to put quarters in a slot in order to actually fasten your seatbelt before taking off.
  • In other news, I am officially going to BlogHer this year, so holler if you’re going too, so that we can make plans to actually, you know, meet in real life.
  • No, I haven’t forgotten my promise to scan photos from my scandalous pageant past.  I actually scanned them yesterday, but had some technical difficulties, blah blah blah, and hence no photos today.  I’ll get to it, I promise.
  • I also have another shocking confession from my past to share, but am waiting on photos from a former partner-in-crime.
  • I usually plan out our meals every week — this week, we were supposed to have roasted chicken, cauliflower gratin, and other veggies for dinner last night and then slow-cooked cannellini beans and sausage tonight.  However, because of a series of unfortunate events — didn’t go to the organic butcher because of the snow, forgot to buy cannellini beans — I’ve had to improvise.  Tonight’s dinner has been changed to red beans and rice with the aforementioned sausage and also the aforementioned cauliflower gratin.  I have now realized that tonight’s meal is essentially a colonic.

Okay, so I’m checking the list on my hand to see if I’ve forgotten anything.  Nope, I’m all good.  Thanks to Sarah Palin for the great organizational tip.

If your next post contains pageant pictures AND a mug shot, it will totally make my day. Just sayin’.

I’m dying to go to BlogHer, but trying to resolve it with our summer travel plans.

We call that the redneck PDA. : )
And I agree with Sarah – yaktrax roxors.

I’d love to go to BlogHer simply because it’s in NY and would be a great excuse for a girl’s trip. But unfortunately that’s the start of Rally week (uh, Sturgis – bajillion motorcycles) and I depart for my SIL’s wedding the next week, so no luck for me. *pouts*

No worries on the picture – I know you’re good for it. As for the red beans and rice with sausage – I’m gonna need you to post that soon. Sounds good.

At least you have seen the sun. Me, not so much and between the wind, snow and being called a lazy bureaucrat – I don’t know which is worst.

When you roll out to Blogher = buy your own pillow and blanket. Don’t use the airlines stuff – I fear the Noro Virus.

  7. WE got your snow. A foot. And counting.

  8. Oh, you make me laugh!
Glad you escaped this storm. We’re being pounded as I type this…

  9. Slow Panic says:

and did you leave room on your hand for American tax cuts?
