Seriously people, where did the fall go? It’s November 1 and I am having a hard time believing that.
(Note to self: It’s the 1st of the month, so the girls will expect to get paid. Must remember to pull out their allowance money.)
It’s also NaBloPoMo (National Blog Posting Month), which is kind of like Sweeps Month for bloggers — a bunch of whom will be posting every. single. day. this month.
Not me, however. I did it last year and, even though I usually post every day, as soon as I started NaBlo, I got writer’s block. Seriously.
To underscore the seriousness of this, let me explain that I almost never have writer’s block. Don’t believe me? As proof, I offer the statistic that I have written over a thousand posts in the 22 months that I’ve been blogging. So I blame NaBlo for last November’s writer’s block. As further proof: Last February, I posted a photo a day for the entire month. As soon as I publicly proclaimed my intent, my brain froze and I couldn’t think of what to write.
So, in conclusion: No mo’ NaBloPoMo fo’ me.
Hmmm… It seems like there was something else I was supposed to tell you people.
[Thinking... Thinking...]
Oh that’s right. Halloween. That was last night, wasn’t it. Y’all might want to see some photos, wouldn’t you?
By popular demand, behold the cuteness of the resident Jenworld children in their Halloween costumes — Smurfette and Hermione Granger:
I know, Smurfette doesn’t have a blue face, but our Smurfette has very sensitive skin and only products made from the tears of baby unicorns can be applied to said skin. So, no blue face.
But! Don’t you just love the wig? The wig might just be Elegant’s new favorite accessory. I paid a whopping $10 for this baby — only the finest Chinese plastic for my child. (Kirstin, no need to freak; I think it might actually have been Malaysian plastic.)
Here’s another view:
I’m not sure why, but the sides are cut in a choppy way at ear lobe level, so really my daughter’s wig is a mullet. Classy.
(Hotfessional, can I send it to you in case you want to change your look and dress as a floozy one day?)
As I mentioned last year, our Halloween fun is in two parts — we go trick-or-treating at the university at 4:00 and then we come home, eat a healthy dinner (ha!), and go out around our neighborhood.
We met up with my friend Melissa — the other half of the Dynamic Duo of Shoe Shopping — and her family at the university.
Behold the might Obi Wan Kenobi in action:
… and the ultra cool Jango Fett:
We strode off with purpose toward our destination — THE CANDY.
About halfway through, we stopped for a candy break:
Suitably fortified, we pushed on in pursuit of more candy.
At the end, we stopped to assess the haul and do some trading:
The children always chose a tree under which to inventory their candy — perhaps trees offer safety from roaming marauders?
Obi Wan’s and Jango’s little sister decided to get down from the safety of dad’s arms and check out the action:
Yeah, that’s a pink crinoline. You wish you could carry off that look with such cuteness and panache.
And then we came home and prepared for Part 2 of our trick-or-treating. I have no photos of that part because I was here handing out candy and, in between knocks on the door, blogging and Twittering.
And now Halloween is over. Today I’m going to be packing up the decorations — not just to put them away but to pack them for the move. I’ve started a pile of boxes in the basement and the Halloween one is going into the stack. One more down, about 287 to go.
Now it’s YOUR turn. Tell me about your Halloween, including your favorite candy.

Cute girls!
Cute girls!
Love the costumes, the girls look fab.
Well, you saw our Halloween semi-live. We do have some leftover chocolate! Yay! Clean-up was easy since I didn’t bother to decorate!
Glad to hear the wig is from Malaysia – so far no reports from there!
Looks like everyone had a great time. I was home with sick daughter – stuffy nose, throwing up and fever. What a way for her to spend her first Halloween.
Looks fun! Love the Smurfette! My kids don’t even know what the smurfs ARE. We left a big bowl of candy on the porch so the kids could help themselves, and took our littles up and down our street. Bad caught on quickly, and ran from house to house yelling, “mo (re)! mo (re)! He was the cutest spiderman in town. The Princess approached even the spookiest houses with her usual single-minded determination, no ghoul can slow her down, not when there’s candy to be had!
ha! You got a deal. some of the wigs I’ve looked at really are mullet-y, and they’re WAY MORE than $10.
Cute pictures! I had so many trick or treaters I ran out of candy by 5:30. My favorite candy is 3 Musketeers. Perfect blend of goodness!
The girls look adorable… as always!
This year, my favorite Halloween Treat came in the form of a vodka tonic.
smurfette kills. love it.
Teenagers are all about the party at someone else’s house. So lots of oohing and aaahing over cute kids like yours that came to my door. The 2 year old 2 houses over dressed as Frankenstein was my absolute fave.
We don’t get any trick-or-treaters, and our Grands live in Minnesota, so I only get vicarious thrill snaps. Last year we were there for the 31st and took the kids around ourselves. (Nana was a witch with green wig and pointy black hat, Grandpa wore a very scary monster mask.) We had a ball. I miss it~
Your costumes were adorable. Love that baby’s crinoline!
Awesome costumes. And somehow, I will find a way to fit a crinoline into my wardrobe.
Great costumes! I especially love smufette! I blogged my girls costumes over at my place. We left a big bowl of candy on the doorstep and trick-or-treated the neighbourhood. It was lovely and warm and very pleasant to walk around after dark.
My fave treat? Hawkins’ cheesies, but no one got any this year. Wah. Close second: mini Kit Kat bars. Mmmmmmm.
After sewing my fingers to nubs creating Road Runner, Wile E. Coyete, and Foghorn Leghorn (that was Papa), and ensuring the Good Witch and the Sheriff from Las Vegas had all their bits and bobs, (Oh, and there was the last minute outfitting of the skate boarding tiger), I didn’t have any juice left to pull together a costume for me. I did throw candy at kids and oohed and ahhed over a few older-fashioned home made ones (there was an amazing robot).
I’m not sure what was going on this year. The block was super quiet by 7:30 and we didn’t run out until 8:30. It was really hard to even give it away.
Regrettably for my waist line, I did a little too much quality checking (it was the chocolate eye balls. They were filled with peanut butter and I just lost control!) Those were the BEST.
smurfette–so cute! Sounds like a grand day!
The girls look great!
I’m trying not to think about the candy that’s in there… so I won’t sit and figure out what my favorite was.
Looks like a great Halloween!!
I can’t believe it’s November, either.
Nice costumes and brownie points to you for that healthy dinner!
Yay! Glad to see you’re back for NaBloPoMo! Have fun.
