Green Works works

I was recently asked by Mom Central to review the new Clorox Green Works dish detergent. I’ve been interested in giving these products a try, as I’d heard good things about them.

So how does it work? Really well, actually. For example, our popcorn popper is a real drag to clean, as it gets pretty greasy (with a lovely grit of salt), but Green Works did a great job. Also, can I just tell you how FAB it smells? Truly, it does. I was sent the Natural scent and it smells mildly like green apples. Not too fake and not too heavy. Loves it.

I’ve been buying only eco cleaning products for some time now and they’re definitely more expensive than conventional. The next time I have to replace any supplies, I’m going to try some of the other things in the Clorox Green Works line.

Anyone else using this detergent? Let me know if you are.

Responses

  1. I’m using the Green Works glass and surface cleaner. It works better than the noxious stuff, and I can get it at Target, which is the whole point of anything. Good to know about the dish detergent — I’ve been using Method, but not liking it very much.

  2. I’m still skeptical. I like the Method products (when I can get them…grrr. I want a Super Target). I really love 7th Generation – but I have to haul those back to the boonies from either Denver or Chicago when we go since I refuse to have them shipped direct and Safeway has stopped carrying them.

I just can’t get past the Clorox name. I’m sure they’ve caught on that people actually do care what they’re cleaning their houses with and are moving in the right direction, but I just can’t get past the “mega-chem-company” bit.

I know I’m dreaming here, but if they’d replaced existing products with these, I’d be a lot more inclined to buy into it. I feel instead they’ve just decided to dabble in the big $$ world of green. Either jump in and dunk your head or get out of the pool. Don’t sit on the edge and dip a couple toes in.

    *sigh* I’ve become such a cynic…

  3. I agree with dbaiss – Clorox manufactures many toxic products and probably wants to pull in people who buy “green” products. They’re offering a safer alternative to the usually harmful stuff that’s easily available to most people, so that is a good thing.

I recently did a post on 1,4-Dioxane found in “natural” dish detergents. Dioxane is a chemical believed to cause damage to the central nervous system, liver, and kidneys. On January 1, 1988, California recognized it as a chemical that can cause cancer.

The Organic Consumers Association recently did testing of many personal care products and the level of Dioxane in each. They did test 2 Clorox Green Works products, but not their dish detergent.

If interested, you can see my post. I’ve mentioned a few popular brands that were tested and their scores – Method, Seventh Generation and Ecover. Seventh Generation had the least out of the three but I still have issues with them that you can read about there.

I was able to come up with a “safe” alternative but it’s not easily available – isn’t that usually the case?

  4. I’ve been using Ivory Liquid MY WHOLE LIFE. Don’t know if I could make the switch.

  5. I like the Method products but might be willing to try this. Mentioned above, I’m just not sure about Clorox, a company that for some time has not been on the green bandwagon. Offering one or two green products is a start, but it doesn’t undo the damage done by the rest of the Clorox line.

  6. I am addicted to Norwex products, clean almost everything with no chemicals at all….

  7. Huh. I’m sticking with Mrs. Meyers because I’m addicted to the smell–lavender–I shall begin to was all Homer Simpson on you now!
